This article will appeal to teachers wishing to develop more fully and in line with Standards the cultural goal from the Standards. The authors do a thorough review of 1st and 2nd year Spanish textbooks and analyze how cultural topics are presented. Acknowledging that textbooks have made strides, the determination is that they fall short of the perspectives, products, and practices embedded in the Standards.
