This article would be of interest to methods instructors and researchers in critical pedagogy. The author critiques various approaches to cultural difference (contrastive rhetoric, the NSFLL) as promoting an essentialist dichotomy of Self versus Other. She proposes that cultural difference be politicized, presented in post-structuralist terms as a constrcted discourse that can be manipulated in the ideological struggle for power among groups.
