Siskin, H. J. (1999). The National Standards and the discourse of innovation. ADFL Bulletin, 31(1), (85-87).

This opinion piece would interest post-secondary faculty, particularly those with an interest in critical applied linguistics. Working within this framework, the author posits that negative reactions to the Standards are possibly a reaction to a discourse from which certain faculty have felt excluded. He suggests, furthermore, that emphasizing continuity of the Standards with earlier work should convince skeptics of their value.
