Lange, D. L. (2003). The implications of the new culture Standards and theoretical frameworks for curriculum, assessment, instruction, and research . In Lange, D. L. & Paige, R. M. (Ed.), Culture as the Core: Perspectives on Culture in Second Language Learning. (pp. 337-337). Greenwich, CT: Information Age.

In this chapter, Lange argues that the Standards place culture at the center of language learning. This increased focus on culture necessitates development of three areas related to language learning: curriculum, assessment, and instruction. Basing his discussion on Bennett's notion of intercultural development, Lange expands on how curriculum, assessment, and instruction might be transformed through a focus on culture, as it is defined in the Standards. Though theoretical in nature, this chapter bases itself in concrete examples and situations.
