Antes, T. A. (1999). The impact of the Standards on the college foreign language classroom . In Nerenz, A. (Ed.), Standards for a New Century. (pp. 19-31). Lincolnwood, IL: National Textbook Company.

This essay article would interest post-secondary faculty concerned with better articulation between high school and college FL study. The author describes how the Standards will increase incoming post-secondary students' proficiency. She suggests broad, proficiency-based placement, and the need to understand how local school districts are implementing the Standards. While affirming the need for post-secondary language requirements, she outlines how institutions will have to create new bridge courses and content courses to accommodate ever more proficient students, and reassess the basic-level course.
