This opinion piece would interest post-secondary faculty concerned with the effectiveness and intellectual vigor of their programs. The author asserts that the communication Standards do, in fact, go beyond what is already done in college language courses; that increased connections would make these courses more appealing; and that the Standards have great implications for the pursuit of intellectual development in language study.
