Of interest to language teachers, this article presents the idea of interdisciplinary simulations to address the Connections strand of the Standards. The author draws from several content areas to develop a four-to-six-week-long unit whose culminating activity is a simulated Mexican café. In this project, students assume the roles of restaurant personnel and greet customers, take and fill orders, cook a variety of Mexican entrees, tally the check, and make change, all in the target language while exhibiting culturally appropriate demeanor.
