Jernigan, C. G. & Moore, Z. (1997). Teaching culture: A study in the Portuguese classroom implications for the National Standards. Hispania, 80(4), (829-841).

Teachers of Portuguese and other teachers interested in ways to teach culture will find this article informative. The authors describe a research project in which they used the framework outlined in the Standards to investigate the ways culture was taught in the classroom. Their findings indicate that teachers had different objectives and approached the teaching and assessment differently. Of particular importance was their finding that comparatively little time was devoted to addressing the perspectives behind the practices and products. Nevertheless, they point out that the Standards offer a very good framework for this kind of inquiry.
