Allen, L. Q. (2002). Teachers' pedagogical beliefs and the Standards for Foreign Language Learning. Foreign Language Annals, 35(5), (518-29).

State and institutional foreign language teaching supervisors and coordinators would benefit from reading this study. It contains information regarding the limited extent to which 613 public and private K-12 teachers in Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri followed the principles outlined in the Standards. The Foreign Language Education Questionnaire (FLEQ) devised by the author (shown in the Appendix) provides a good model for assessing what FL teachers believe. Of special interest is the author's sense that teachers are guided by their textbooks and endorse a "coverage model."
