This report, written shortly after the publication of the National Standards, would be of interest to those who study the history of the Standards movement in the United States, as well as higher education faculty who want to improve implementation of the Standards at their level. It discusses how post-secondary faculty and administrators may receive the Standards. The author laments that few faculty have heard of the Standards, much less contemplated their implementation at the post-secondary level, and points out potential areas of misunderstanding or apprehension in the national documents: the role of grammar and literature/reading in language instruction. The author recommends providing faculty with information on the context of the Standards and how they came into being, to increase their acceptance among this crucial constituency.#JournalArticle #Standards #All #All #Principalfocus #PolicyorAdministrative #All5Cs
