Of interest to language program directors and teachers, this article presents a service-learning scenario for Spanish language learning. Using analysis of self-assessments of students at the University of North Carolina-Asheville, who worked in the local public health department, this article reports a discussion of the degree to which each of the Standards were met. The authors suggest that the numerous benefits and limited disadvantages make service-learning an ideal opportunity for language programs and language learners.
