Barnes-Karol, G. (2000). Revising a Spanish novel class in the light of Standards for Foreign Language Learning. ADFL Bulletin, 31(2), (44-48).

This article would be of particular interest to post-secondary Spanish instructors, but is also of interest to all FL literature instructors. The author describes the changing needs of students who major, or double major in Spanish courses and the potential for literature courses to meet students' need to develop linguistic and cultural fluency and to prepare them for interactions in real or virtual environments. The author then describes how she organized the content and structure of her Spanish novel course around the Five C's providing examples of her approach to several Spanish novels. She purports that her class activities, assignments and methods of evaluation have the goal of maximizing student participation and developing learners' four language skills for each of the 5 Cs.
