Glisan, E. W., Uribe, D. & Adair-Hauck, B. (2007). Research on integrated performance assessment at the post-secondary level: Student performance across the modes of communication. Canadian Modern Language Review, 64(1), (39-67).

This article would be particularly useful for researchers, but also for teachers working in assessment at both the secondary and the college levels. It describes a U.S. Air Force Academy project that implements performance-based assessment for the Standards' three modes of Communication (interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational) in a Spanish culture and civilization class. The assessment follows an Integrated Performance Assessment (IPA), originally designed for 6 secondary schools. Best practices for authentic, rubric-based performance assessment exemplify unified teaching, learning, and assessment practices. Finally, data are presented about correlations (mostly negative) between length of study at the secondary and post-secondary levels and student outcomes.
