Aimed at a general audience at all levels of teaching, this article describes the origin and development of the Standards project and exemplifies the instructional goals tied to each Standard. It concludes with an extended scenario on how to develop Standards-based instructional units at any level, describing the outcomes of specific student activities in terms of the Standards they represent.
