Lyman-Hager, M. A. & Burnett, J. (1999). Meeting the needs of all learners: Case studies in computer-based foreign language reading . In Phillips, J. K. & Terry, R. M. (Ed.), Foreign Language Standards: Linking Research, Theories, and Practices. (pp. 219-252). Lincolnwood, IL: National Textbook Company.

This article, of particular interest to foreign language teachers, examines three students' experiences using a computerized reading of an excerpt from a French novel, Une vie de boy (Oyono 1956). In this study, interpretive communication is evaluated by student recall and vocabulary retention, which was then linked to pre-test questionnaires. The authors link the importance of reading to the Communication, Cultures, and Comparisons goals of the Standards, and provide a rationale for a computerized reading program at the intermediate level.
