This article is a revised version of the keynote address the author gave at the 1998 CALICO conference. It would be of interest to any teacher of any language at any level. Phillips shows how technology is a tool used to reach the goals expressed in all five Standards. She argues that technology will revolutionize language teaching in the areas of access (e.g. more varied and more up-to-date resources from target language countries), authenticity (direct contact with culture bearers and authentic texts), and insights (use of technological tools in L2 acquisition research, teacher practices, etc.). At the same time, Phillips cautions against the use of "bells and whistles" that do not follow research-based principles in second language learning.#All #Technology #Standards #Teachersandteaching #All #Substantialmention #All5Cs #Curriculum #PolicyorAdministrative #JournalArticle
