Literature, the interpretive mode, and novice learners

This qualitative research article analyzes novice learners' use of the interpretive mode of the Communication Standard, through use of a literary text in a foreign language classroom. The article suggests that novice readers are able to interpret literary texts with appropriate moderation from the teacher and classmates. This article will be of interest to researchers and FL teachers interested in the integration of literature in foreign language learning.
