This chapter would interest administrators and teachers seeking to meet the needs of all students in their foreign language curriculum. In this project, the teacher/researcher developed an Arabic language program in an inner-city school, directed toward African American students. He asked students to keep a journal of their language learning, and recorded his own observations throughout the course. His observations focus on transfer between African American vernacular (L1) and Arabic (L2) as well as the relationship students might perceive between themselves and Arabic culture.
