Administrators and leaders with a very basic awareness of foreign language education would be interested in this chapter. It first reviews the changes in curriculum, instruction, and assessment of foreign language education over the past 20 years. It then considers future challenges, as the profession strives to implement the ideas embodied in the Standards. Using literature on leadership as a guide, the author then suggests how the profession might make the Standards' vision of foreign language education a reality.
