Allen, H. W. (2009). In search of relevance: The role of the Standards in the undergraduate foreign language curriculum" . In Scott, V. M. (Ed.), Principles and Practices of the Standards in College Foreign Language Education. (pp. 38-52). Boston: Heinle.

College-level FL teachers and administrators will be interested in this discussion of the challenges inherent in adopting a Standards-based curriculum in undergraduate education, particularly at the advanced level. The author argues that the Standards fall short for several reasons, including the decentralized role of literature and the focus on learning outcomes rather than on learning processes. She believes that the Standards are an important document within a professional dialogue rather than a blueprint for change.
