Roca, A. (2000). Heritage learners of Spanish . In Guntermann, G. (Ed.), Teaching Spanish with the five C's: A blueprint for success. (pp. 91-106). Fort Worth, TX: Harcourt.

This chapter would be of interest to teachers and administrators who work with heritage students of Spanish. The author provides a brief history of demographics and Spanish heritage teaching in the United States and summarizes efforts by AATSP, ACTFL, and the National Foreign Language Resource Centers to address heritage language learning. The article describes how heritage learners would perform within a Standards-based curriculum (in contrast to second-language learners) and provides a sample activity to illustrate how teachers could implement the Standards in a heritage learning classroom.
