This article will be of interest to teachers and teacher educators. The author initially provides a brief historical overview of the creation of the Standards and then explores how the Standards have reshaped the area of communication. The author then describes the framework of the three Communicative Modes in the Standards, interpretative, interpersonal, and presentational, providing instructional implications and a classroom example of the use of a film (Au revoir les enfants) for each of the three modes.
