Bateman, B. E. & Knapp, N. P. (2006). Españolandia: A statewide language and culture simulation for Spanish students. NECTFL Review, 57, (7-17).

This contribution, of interest to high school teachers especially, details a simulation called Españolandia. Españolandia offers learners opportunities to interact with Spanish speakers in simulated arenas such as a post office, a café, a clothing store, and a passport control area. The Standards are employed as a theoretical framework. The article states how the communication standard is met as well as how learners build communities through service encounters and develop cultural understandings by using and acquiring various cultural products within the simulation.
