Teachers interested in the ways that distance education can meet the goals outlined in the Standards will appreciate this article. Hokanson argues that the distance learning environment can be particularly well suited to addressing some of the Standards goals because students are often less anxious and therefore more likely to engage in the activities. She notes, however, that it is essential to plan student-centered activities that ensure individualized practice and communication.
