Smith, A. N. (1999). Designing a Standards-Based Thematic Unit Using the Learning Scenario as an Organizational Framework. ACTFL White Papers, Spring

This article is of interest to classroom teachers of any language, at any level. It provides a definition and example of the concept of "learning scenario" as a tool to carry out a Standards-based thematic unit. Specifically, the classroom example for second-semester college French class illustrates the activities involved in carrying out the theme "Changing family values". Specific Standards are targeted. This article, published three years after the release of the Standards, is an early attempt at disseminating examples of how the Standards could be implemented in the classroom.
