This article speaks to the merits of the Standards in moving FL instruction toward contextualized, content-based instruction that is embedded in culture, which the author believes has the potential to unite language and literature studies. This article speaks to the importance of producing cross-trained (language/literature) graduate students for their future professoriate to help unify the profession and to facilitate the articulation for K-12 learners into higher education.
