Of interest especially to elementary language teachers, this article describes a pedagogical unit designed using the Standards for an elementary French class. Focused on culture, this unit takes the student on an imaginary trip to a Francophone country, Martinique, while following the authentic narrative of a young native speaker. The article describes how connections were made to other subject areas throughout the lesson and gives specific reference to how the lesson exemplifies specific principles of the Standards.
