This article would be of interest to university (college of education, language department) and school district teacher trainers. It offers a proposal for documenting pre-service teachers' progress in meeting the ACTFL and NCATE Standards for second language teachers. The authors suggest that an electronic portfolio, consisting of a range of evidence consisting of original materials developed by pre-service teachers (videotaped mini-lessons, sample lesson plans, sample assessment items, CV, job application letter, statement of teaching philosophy, etc. ). The article provides a summary of the ACTFL/NCATE Standards and establishes a connection between them and the Standards for Foreign Language Learning, highlighting the abilities teachers need to have in order to teach to the learner Standards.
