Mecartty, F. H. (2006). Advances in the intermediate level language curriculum: The role of the Standards at the college level. NECTFL Review, 58, (50-67).

Writing especially to postsecondary educators, the author argues that the Standards are a viable framework for collegiate-level curriculum development. He notes that they are useful particularly within the context of the diversity of knowledge and preparation of students who wish to enter the upper-levels with language study. The Standards are praised for their ability to assist in developing goals for collegiate language programs; for recommending and establishing benchmarks; and for providing explicit pedagogical suggestions for meeting all five goal areas.
