This article describes a professional development program in California, which focused on strengthening the academic content knowledge of teachers and their leadership skills. When developing the content areas, the trainers referred to the National Standards and their importance to teacher training. By 1999-2000 all of the regional sites had introduced the Standards into their program activities.
