Written for postsecondary teacher trainers, this article will also interest educators on the secondary level. The author discusses different kinds of teacher knowledge (content knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge) and advocates systematic reform of professional development to place it within the realm of an interdisciplinary structure including faculty at both the postsecondary and schools levels. She believes that such a new structure would elevate the status of teacher preparation programs and increase collaboration across levels.
