ACTFL is seeking volunteers to serve a one-year term on its Diversity and Inclusion Task Force. The work of this task force is an important way ACTFL acts on the first pillar of its strategic plan, which is below:
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
OBJECTIVE: ACTFL is a leader on issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Enhance the means for making issues of EDI a priority of ACTFL’s strategic decision-making processes.
- Expand opportunities for volunteer leadership that reflect ACTFL’s commitment to EDI.
- Increase support for high-quality research that demonstrates the importance of EDI issues in language education.
- Demonstrate leadership by convening EDI conversations within the language profession.
Going forward, the task force will provide input to the ACTFL Board to help advance the issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion, both within the organization and in the language education profession at-large.
This task force has been vital, most recently, in shaping this important pillar of the strategic plan, as well as developing ACTFL’s 2019 Statement on Diversity and Inclusion. Any ACTFL member interested in serving on this task force should complete the short application by August 14. All applicants will be notified of decisions by August 28.
Task force members must be a current member to apply, and must maintain an active ACTFL membership for the duration of their term. Volunteers should anticipate to commit approximately 5 hours per month to task force activities and responsibilities. All work will be conducted online. Volunteers may serve on a maximum of one ACTFL committee/task force at a time (including SIG Officers/Board Committees/Awards Committees).
