Description:

Looking to contribute your experience as an educator to helping future language teachers receive funding for their college studies? This is the opportunity for you!

To address the critical shortage of language teachers currently reported in at least 44 states, in Spring 2019 ACTFL and its Lead with Languages campaign launched the Lead with Languages Teacher Scholarship Program.  We’re currently building a selection committee composed of language educators to choose the awardees for the first class of Lead with Languages Teacher Scholars, who will begin college this autumn.

As the inaugural initiative of the Lead with Languages Scholarship Fund, this award provides merit-based scholarships to graduating high school seniors committed to pursuing the language teaching profession in languages other than English. The program provides recipients with an award of $1,500 per academic year; scholarships may be renewed three times following the initial award, for a cumulative total of $6,000 per recipient. Upon graduation and entry into the teaching field, Lead with Languages Teacher Scholars will also receive 1-year complimentary ACTFL membership, which includes access to the ACTFL Mentorship Program aimed at early-career language teachers.

The application period for students to submit their materials closed May 31, 2019.  Awardees will be notified by July 15, 2019. For more information about the Program, please visit: https://www.leadwithlanguages.org/language-programs/lead-languages-scholarship-fund/.
