Project-Based Learning for Language Growth, Community Engagement, and Professional Development
Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a proficiency-oriented instructional approach that promotes real-world language use, fosters learner engagement, integrates all modes of communication, and supports differentiated, learner-centered instruction. This session will outline the core principles of PBL and present a step-by-step protocol for implementing it in the language classroom, with particular emphasis on strategies that make PBL accessible and meaningful for students at all proficiency levels, from novice to advanced. The session will conclude by exploring how PBL serves as an ideal pedagogy for diverse classes, as well as for experiential learning formats such as internships, community service learning, and courses on language for specific purposes.
