2011 Summer Courses for K-12 Teachers and Adult Learners
College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor Maine is offering a unique opportunity to Spanish Teachers:
Spanish Through Immersion:  In the Student's Shoes
taught by Karla Peña

The objective of this course is to introduce teachers to practices that will be useful in effectively teaching Spanish through full immersion from the first moment in an introductory Spanish class.  Teachers will study, explore and practice the use of different cultural immersion techniques they will find useful in teaching Spanish as a foreign language to students in grades K- 12, and in college.

Karla Peña,
a native of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico has worked at College of the Atlantic each fall since 2003 as the Spanish professor, and as a leader of the Cultural Immersion Program in the Yucatan each winter term. She continues to expand and implement a method of teaching Spanish based on immersion that was the focus of her master's thesis, where she highlights the importance of cultural and language immersion as the sole means of instruction.

Join us, and Karla, at COA this summer and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity!
