Why should students study German? Research-informed strategies for revitalizing undergraduate German programs
This webinar presents concrete, evidence-based strategies for redesigning undergraduate German programs to increase enrollment, retention, and students’ sense of belonging. Drawing on L2 motivation and engagement research as well as examples from the University of Louisville’s revitalized program, participants will explore how to: develop innovative and accessible courses aligned with institutional priorities; integrate students’ personal and professional lives into the German curriculum; build inclusive curricular and co-curricular communities, and identify opportunities to connect research with program development. Participants will leave with a replicable framework for designing research-informed, community-centered program growth—even within limited institutional resources.
