Content standards are what students know and be able to do in foreign language education in  grades, four, eight, twelve and sixteen.  These standards are intended to serve as a gauge for excellence, as states and local districts carry out their responsibilities for curriculum in the schools.  Standards are the what should be taught in American language classrooms.
