Goulah, J. (2007). Toward pax terra-humana: Cultural transformative learning and a planetary literacy in the foreign language classroom. Journal of Transformative Education, 5(2), (163-176).

This article will be of interest to all teachers who want to learn more about the principles of transformative education. Drawing on O'Sullivan's notion of transformative learning, Goulah designed learning unit based on a particular Japanese film. Using a case study analysis, the author reports the ways this approach changed several students' attitudes about certain features of Japanese-American history and relations. He found that this approach engaged students in developing critical empathy and cross-cultural literacy. Goulah concludes that this transformative learning approach also served to meet the two cultures Standards.
